About the festival

The Outer Cape Chamber Music Festival is an exciting new summer music series in residency at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Led by cellist and Artistic Director Joseph Gotoff, this intimate chamber music series aims to enrich Provincetown's cultural landscape by presenting world-class performances that directly engage with PAAM's art exhibitions. The inaugural 2025 season will feature two main chamber music concerts over two weeks in early summer.

The series stands out for its mission of unique integration with PAAM's visual arts collections. Each year, the musical programming will be chosen to create dialogues with the art on display, both in the permanent and temporary collections. Our goal is to create a unique artistic experience for the audience.

With strong ties to the Cape Cod community, the festival will showcase both established and emerging artists who have connections to the region, creating performances that are deeply rooted in Provincetown's rich artistic heritage. We aim to offer an inclusive, engaging experience that brings together music and visual arts in PAAM's inspiring gallery space.

Joseph Gotoff, founder

As a young musician with deep family roots in Truro, I spent many a summer night performing on the streets of Provincetown, right outside of Cabot’s Candy. The seemingly unlimited flavors of artistic expression you could find out here, rooted in the natural beauty of the beaches, dunes and forests, provided endless inspiration and joy.

Today, I am the Assistant Professor of Cello at Towson University, with a concert schedule that brings me regularly to the Cape as part of the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra. In starting this series, my hope is to bring my passion for chamber music to the Outer Cape Cod community, adding a new voice to the rich tapestry of art and culture already present. Our collaboration with PAAM provides a unique opportunity to create one-of-a-kind artistic conversations between art and music, brought to audiences in an inspiring, central space.

It is important to me that this festival does not feel like one that could take place just anywhere, but is grounded in the culture of Provincetown specifically, through its personnel, mission, and programming. Many of the world-class artists performing at the festival have connections to the Cape; having spent time here, they all recognize and celebrate the unique culture that can be found all the way out at the tip of Cape Cod.

We hope you join us on our mission to bring the highest quality chamber music to this community for many years to come.
